




This is what it looks like to teach a kinestheic and, often, reluctant learner.
Some words are just harder to memorize using text book methods for little boys who would much rather build a space ship than learn to spell one.
So we use play-dough and a lot of patience and we make letters. Having them color coded makes it all the more easy to remember that the silent 'e' at the end is, well, silent.
And we use a lot of tile letters for spelling 'tests'. Little fingers tend to get weary after a long handwriting lesson, and sometimes you have to just let the child show that he knows how to spell the word even if it means he's not able to write one more thing that day.
